How we compare plans

Every plan is priced on the same year for your home, then ranked by its estimated yearly cost: bills less feed-in credits, including supply charges and GST. No payment or partnership changes the order. WorthTheWatts is run by Nettleton Digital (ABN 85 565 797 869), and no retailer, installer or car maker owns it. We don't earn anything from retailers.

Your usage. With a smart meter file we use your own half-hourly readings. Without one, a sample household of the size you pick.
Weather. A typical year for your roof from PVGIS (2005–2023). The range shown under each price runs from a sunny to a cloudy year.
Your equipment. Your panels, battery and cars run the way you set them, and the battery and charging respond to each plan's prices.
What counts. Guaranteed discounts and fees every customer pays are included. Conditional discounts (such as pay on time) and one-off fees (connection, late payment) are left out.
What's compared. Every residential plan for your network in the Australian Energy Regulator's public plan data, refreshed weekly. The same retailer's variants at the same price show once. All plans get a quick price, then the ten cheapest are rerun in full.
What's left out. Plans needing a membership or a broker, and Seniors Card plans unless you tick that you hold one; plans that follow wholesale prices; and plans for equipment you haven't added.
What may be missing. Some retailers don't publish all their plans in that data, especially EV plans. We add a few by hand from retailers' plan sheets, but others may be missing. WA and the NT aren't in the national market, so there you enter your own prices.
Switching. Savings don't include any exit fee or conditions on your current plan. Check with your retailer, and check the new plan's current prices before you switch.

Estimates only, not financial advice. Solar uses average weather for your roof from PVGIS (European Commission, 2005–2023 ERA5 data); without it, solar is estimated from the sun’s path. The 3D house is illustrative. Electricity plans come from the Australian Energy Regulator’s public plan data (a few EV plans from the retailer’s own plan sheet), so check the current prices with the retailer before switching. Some retailers don't publish every plan there, so a few may be missing. WA and the NT aren't in the national market: there you enter your own prices.
